What are C.O.O.L Mentors?
A C.O.O.L mentor takes the lead in supporting a young person through a one-on-one relationship. This individual will build the mentor/mentee relationship by planning and participating in activities with the mentee. These activities can be one-on-one or in a group setting.
To become a C.O.O.L mentor, one must submit a pre-screening application, complete an interview with the Program Coordinator, and a complete a background check. Those interested in becoming C.O.O.L mentor must be willing to commit to a minimum of 1 year with the mentoring program. For more details, please submit your questions on the Contact Us page.
Who are C.O.O.L Mentees?
C.O.O.L mentees are children, teens, and young adults within the ages of 9-24 years of age who reside in Southern California. All of C.O.O.L mentees must be willing to commit to a minimum of 1 year with the mentoring program. Mentees will receive a complete screening by the program coordinator, which will assist in finding a compatible match for mentees. Mentees will have the opportunity to participate in 1-on-1 outings as well as, group outings. Please note, all C.O.O.L mentees must receive parental consent to participate in the mentor program and activities.

Mentor-Mentee Matching Process
The Program Coordinator will screen potential mentors and mentees through the screening process, which is described above. Once a potential match is identified, a pre-match meeting will take place with mentor, mentee, menteeās parents/guardian, and program coordinator or a member from the Advisory Team. During the pre-match meeting, an overview of mentor/mentee role will be provided, rules and expectations will be discussed, and discuss outing schedule and arrangement. Below is a brief explanation of the different type of outings offered through the C.O.O.L mentoring program:
1-on-1 outings
During 1-on-1 outings, mentees will have the opportunity to have social outings with their assigned mentor. Outings can last anywhere from 2-4 hours, depending on previous arrangements with your assigned mentor. C.O.O.L mentees must receive parental consent for all outings with C.O.O.L mentors.
Group Outings
Every 2 months, all of C.O.O.L mentor and mentee matches will have the opportunity to participate in group outings. For further detail, please submit your questions to Contact Us page.
